[Listening to |Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Hold on to Yourself]

I keep finding myself adding to the things I want to do, in terms of cleaning out some clutter from my personal space. I guess I get this feeling every so often, especially when I am preparing for a move or change in my life. Already I've been making my way through my books, and I realized I really should do something similar with my movies. I had acquired too many movies that I haven't seen or that I only kinda like or what have you. Some of them I've just had forever. Anyway, as a result, I watched There Will Be Blood tonight. So yeah, I've got a very late review.

After about 2 hours of the movie, I kind of liked the movie, but I wasn't just thrilled like I had hoped. The acting was great, the costumes, set design were great, and the music (by Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood) was fantastic. In fact, I'd say the music and visual mood of the films were probably my favorite parts. That and the end. This is one of those films where if you walk away before getting to the end, you missed out (as opposed to AI, where if you missed the last 30 minutes you thought you saw a better film). It really doesn't happen that often, but it certainly does here. And even after hearing "I drink your milkshake" or at least seeing it on the internet more than a few times, actually seeing the performance (and then seeing Daniel Day-Lewis' character beating the preacher with a bowling pin) is completely different, and extremely fantastic. The ending for some reason reminds me of Barry Lyndon, sans "what happened to the character" scene. I think There Will Be Blood may be similar in that when I decide to watch it again, it'll strike me as even better than I thought when I saw it the first time around.

Also, this Nick Cave album is fantastic (yes, I just got ahold of it).

[Listening to |Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Bartender]

So after my last post, I decided to take on two books I was almost finished with, and for whatever reason never finished long ago.

A few days ago I finished one, Persepolis Book Two, which I somehow have not managed to get around to finishing the last two parts after owning it for 3 years or so.

Over a year ago, I took on actually tackling The People's History of the United States, which I had been putting off for some time. I read most of it inbetween calls at Farm Bureau's call center. Well, I never picked it back up when I came down here, and just finished it tonight. I basically just had the last 35 years unread, and it probably would have been finished sooner had I not more important things to do (visiting Norah!). Anyway, fantastic read, very good, will destroy your concept of American history given you haven't done that on your own already.

Not sure what I'll get into next. I realized I had some Batman collections I still haven't finished reading, and there's always the half-read Nabokov books that decorate my shelves.
